• 00:36 RUSD Holiday Basket Assembly at Alvarado Intermediate

  12/13/14 - More than 200 students and members from the Walnut Valley Rotary gathered to assemble holiday baskets for RUSD families in need at Alvarado Intermediate on 12/13/14. Students from Interact clubs at Rowland High School, Walnut High School, ASB students from Nogales and Santana High Schools, along with college students involved with Rotary from Cal Poly Pomona and Mt. SAC gathered at 7 a.m. to assemble the 11,567 cans of food and 250 turkeys that were donated. There were 320 holiday baskets assembled that families from across the Rowland Unified School District received. Thank you to everyone who participated!

  Rowland District Leadership Team members had fun accepting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Friday. Dr. Melissa Neal, Director of Pupil Services, Brian Huff, Director of Instructional Support, Dr. Doug Staine, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources (and the only one who did not change and was drenched wearing a tie!), Barry Dragon, Interim Asst. Superintendent of Administrative Services, Teresa Healy, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and even RUSD's new Superintendent Dr. Julie Mitchell joined the fun dousing Interim Superintendent Dr. John Roach.

  This morning Shelyn Principal Opatkiewicz responded to the challenge by Villacorta Principal John Martinez to take the ALS Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and funds for ALS. The entire school made donations and held the event in memory of their beloved teacher Louise Stellmacher who passed away from ALS five years ago. Mrs. Opatkiewicz challenged the administration team at Ybarra Academy, Alvarado Intermediate and Bob Withers at Rowland High School to also take the challenge.
