Teachers serve fast-food for library
San Gabriel Valley Tribune (March 20, 2009)
LA PUENTE -- You want fries with that?
Teachers from Hurley Elementary School in La Puente took on the role of McDonald's employees Wednesday to raise money for a new library.
The event, titled, ``Mc Teach Night,'' was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the restaurant, 15628 Gale Ave. in Hacienda Heights.
A portion of all proceeds went to the library fund for the Rowland Unified school, officials said in a written statement.
Hurley Elementary School pledged to raise $40,000 for a new library to serve the school and community. The money would match a grant provided by The Wonder of Reading organization.
The new library is planned to be twice the size of the current one and is scheduled to open April 3, school officials said.
To make a donation to the project, contact Hurley Elementary School Principal Can Windham at (626) 965-2429.
