Alvarado Math Students Advance to State "Mathcounts" Competition March 15

Congratulations to the Alvarado “Mathcounts team” for an outstanding performance at last Saturday's regional competition at Cal Poly Pomona. Alvarado Mathcounts Team received 2nd place out of 13 middle schools and will advance to the state competition at UC Irvine on Saturday March 15th.
 
Kyle Miho placed first in the entire competition defeating 88 other students. Kyle then went on to defeat three other students in the countdown round before taking second place. Wesley Ru placed 7th, Yohan Jeon placed 12th and Jason Chen placed 14th. The lead teacher is Alvarado Math Department Chair Mike Mills and the co-advisor is Linda Kim.

Mr. Mills with first place winner Kyle Miho. Kyle had the highest individual score out of all 89 students in our region. Kyle only missed one problem in the entire competition. This is the first student in school history to ever score perfect on the Mathcounts Sprint round getting 30 out of 30 correct.
