Welcome to the start of the 2013-14 School Year! RHS Seniors Gathered at Sunrise....

Welcome to the start of the 2013-14 School Year! Across the District, our schools have welcomed students and families with a variety of activities. Ybarra Academy and Jellick Elementary had opening day parent classroom visitations and check out what Rowland High School did…

At 5:45 a.m. on the first day of school, most students are not on campus yet. But yesterday, seniors from Rowland High School gathered in the stadium to watch the sunrise together, take a photo, and write a note to themselves about their final year of high school. Senior Class President Raymond Sit (pictured right collecting letters) said the event was so successful last year, they did it again.

“I think everyone had a blast today -- we provided each student a donut and juice and then they get the chance to write a letter to themselves that says a goal or what they want to accomplish this year. At the end of the year, we hold a sunset BBQ and we give them back their letter.”

Hurley Elementary welcome team Jorge Aranibar, Bertha Valadez, Elizabeth Rueda and Patricia Hernandez greeted parents and helped direct families to correct classrooms. Yorbita Principal Sylvia Cadena and Assistant Principal/Coordinator of Student Achievement Amy Grigsby greet the First Grade Classroom of Mrs. Kathy Anacleto.

Giano Flag Ceremony: The Giano Band and the United States Marine Corps led a flag raising ceremony today in the quad for students and staff. “It is a great and respectful way to start the year and is an annual Giano tradition,” said Ochoa.
