With a unanimous vote and smiles across the board, Bakersfield City School District's trustees on Monday welcomed its new superintendent with BCSD employees and community members.

"Tonight, I'm prouder than I have ever been," said trustee Bill McDougle, who has been an employee and trustee in the district since 1966. "I think we will be the best district in the state of California."

At a special board meeting Monday night, Robert J. Arias, currently a deputy superintendent of the Los Angeles-area Rowland Unified School District, signed an agreement to take over the reins for the largest California elementary school district. He will officially start Jan. 9.

"It's amazing," Arias said of taking on the job. "I pinch myself every time I think about it." Click Here for entire story!
