The Los Angeles County Department of Public Work's "Safe Routes to School Program" will celebrate at Killian Elementary "Walk to School Day" and provide safety presentations for students and parents throughout the morning.

The day is to encourage parents to walk to school with their children and will feature colorful traffic costume characters that will greet families as they arrive to school. After the arrival time is over, safety presentations every 30 minutes will be held for each grade.

Safe Moves, established in 1983, is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to reducing traffic-related deaths and injuries to school-aged children while  encouraging children to walk and bicycle to school. Safe Moves is considered one of the leading authorities on Safe Routes to School in the country and has won many national awards from the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Administration, Department of Health Services, California Office of Traffic Safety and the Association of Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Professionals.
