CAL POLY POMONA PRESIDENT TO PRESENT COLLEGE FLAG TO ADOPTED KINDERGARTEN CLASS

WEST COVINA, CA – The students may be a bit smaller than the ones studying at Cal Poly Pomona, but the Kindergarten class of Cynthia Alvarez at Hollingworth Elementary are crazy about their “adopted college” and will get a special surprise when University President J. Michael Ortiz will present an official Cal Poly Pomona flag to the class. Hollingworth Elementary teachers and staff have developed a “college crazy” culture to immerse their students in at this “No Excuses University” school. No Excuses University is a network of elementary, middle and junior high schools across the nation that promotes a comprehensive model of college readiness to student the moment they begin elementary school.

As you walk the campus of Hollingworth, college flags and banners hang outside every classroom (such as Harvard, USC, MIT) … but there was not a flag for Cal Poly Pomona available. When the Kindergarten class approached Cal Poly Pomona, the college had a special one designed for them.

Flag Presentation:   Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. – Hollingworth Kindergarten Class of Cynthia Alvarez

Location:       Hollingworth Elementary – 3003 E. Hollingworth Street, West Covina (909)598-3661
