The purpose of this field trip is for 6th grade GATE students across the District to have the opportunity to interact and tour the campus with high school students. GATE students can ask questions and will observe classes.

Students who demonstrate creativity and special ability are referred to testing by third grade for admission to the District's Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program. At the elementary school level, GATE-identified youngsters experience the basic curriculum with differentiated classroom instruction.

Throughout the school year, GATE students are exposed to new learning opportunities, special field trips and enrichment activities. All elementary teachers are trained to provide enhanced instruction for the GATE-identified youngsters in their classes.

At the intermediate level, GATE students choose from a wide array of honors and high school level courses. In high school, GATE students enroll in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, Advanced Placement (AP), and honors courses.

A large and active GATE Parent's Committee meets regularly to support the instruction of their children. Contact the District's GATE Office at (626) 854-8390 (M-F, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) for more information about GATE, GATE testing, GATE parent training programs, and other parent resources.
